The Monday Minute with Dr. Williams

Monday Minute

February 9, 2026

This week we celebrate student achievement in the performing arts and athletics and connect with essential financial aid resources. Each reflects the vibrant, supportive community that defines Montgomery College. I am grateful for the faculty, staff, and students who make our College such a dynamic place to learn, work, and grow together.

Students Shine At Regional Festival
Eighteen Montgomery College theatre students participated in the American College Theatre Festival Region 2 in January, earning standout recognition among students from 80 colleges and universities across nine states. Desiree Claggett and Josh Flitter advanced to the third round of the Irene Ryan Acting Competition, one of only 17 pairs selected from 140 duos, while Wren Pederson and Liam Sloan reached the semi‑finals. Additional honors included Rooster Sultan for Best Direction of Ten‑Minute Plays; Sierra Suarez for Best Performance in the Devised/24 Hour Plays; and Molly Ario, Atles Moritz, Wren Pederson, and Liam Sloan for Best Collaboration. Congratulations to our exceptional students and thanks to their supportive faculty and staff.

Winter Spirit Night This Wednesday
Join fellow Raptors for our Winter Spirit Night new window this Wednesday, February 11 and cheer on MC basketball, connect with students, employees, and alumni. The event will include food, fun activities, and Montgomery College-branded giveaways. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the women’s team tips off at 5:30 p.m., followed by halftime fun and special interactive games between matchups. The men’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. This evening is a great opportunity show off your MC pride as we experience the energy of Raptors Athletics and celebrate our community together.

Get Financial Aid Assistance
February is Financial Aid Awareness Month, and the Office of Student Financial Aid is providing special events to help guide students and their families. These include virtual Need Money new window sessions starting this week for one-on-one assistance from financial aid staff. Sessions are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays via Zoom. Staff can assist with completing the FAFSA or the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) One App (for those who do not qualify for FAFSA), and with submitting required documents, applying for scholarships, and navigating the Maryland College Aid Processing System (MDCAPS). Whether you are new to financial aid or need support completing applications, these sessions provide personalized guidance to help access available funding. Registration new window is required.
